JumpStart Math Pathway Assessment Process (Rising Grade 6)

Students placed into Math 6 Enriched may elect to participate in the JumpStart Math Pathway assessment process for possible placement into an accelerated middle school mathematics sequence.
The JumpStart pathway is designed for students demonstrating exceptional readiness in mathematics and allows students to progress through advanced coursework at an accelerated pace. Students who qualify have the opportunity to complete both Algebra I and Geometry during middle school, placing them in a position to take advanced high school mathematics courses such as AP Calculus BC as a junior and Multivariable Calculus as a senior.
Participation in the assessment is optional and available only to students placed into Math 6 Enriched. Placement decisions for the JumpStart pathway are based solely on student performance on the assessment. Students must meet the established benchmark score in order to qualify for placement into the accelerated course.
Students who do not qualify will remain in Math 6 Enriched, which is already an advanced and rigorous mathematics pathway that prepares students for future acceleration opportunities. There is no waiver or reconsideration process associated with JumpStart placement decisions.
Families of students placed into Math 6 Enriched will receive the assessment registration information via email during the month of May.
Math Acceleration for Current 7th-Grade Students in Math 7
7th-grade students who were not in the accelerated math pathway (took Math 7) and are interested in pursuing Algebra 1 in 8th grade may be eligible to enroll in the Kinnelon Public Schools Summer Mathematics Academy Course: Introduction to Algebra. This three-week summer program is designed to provide students with the foundational algebra skills and mathematical readiness needed for success in Algebra I. Eligible students must complete the course requirements, including the final assessment and attendance expectations, to advance in the fall.
This course is also an excellent refresher opportunity for students who have already completed Pre-Algebra 7A and will be entering Algebra I in the fall. The program reinforces key algebraic concepts, strengthens problem-solving skills, and helps students build confidence before beginning high school-level mathematics coursework.
